Location of Tayrona Park
Located close to Santa Marta, Tayrona Park is one of the amazing natural parks on the Caribbean coast. It was not very popular but of late the number of visitors has tremendously increased. The beautiful Tayrona National Park comprises of around 150 sq.km of land and 30 km of coastline. There are over 60 species of mammals, 400 species of beautiful birds, rare reptiles and Amphibians. The park is a unique and stunning bio diverse area with coastal mountains on one side and amazing beaches on the other. It is truly a magical destination where you can unwind while becoming one with nature. However, in the recent times, given the increased inflow of tourists, the park’s ecosystem is being adversely affected. Tayrona Park beaches
There are several beaches in the park, five of which are very popular:
Arrecifes beach: This is the first beach you will come across when you come from the main entrance. With a forest backdrop and fabulous mountains, this beach offers a soothing view to the visitors. Kindly note, there are several instances of drowning here; so stay away from the deep waters.
La Piscina beach: Secured by an offshore reef, this narrow beach is beautiful and perfectly safe to swim. It is a good place for Snorkeling however there are no camp sites at this beach.
Cabo San Juan De Guia beach: This is a 15-minute walk from La Piscina and the most popular among all. The beach also has a campsite and tents that you can rent. There’s a good restaurant as well where you can relish some of the finest Colombian food.
Canaveral beach: This is an accommodation beach where you will find hammocks and tents for rent. There are fewer visitors to this beach since it is located close to the exit. Swimming is not safe here.
La Piscinita beach: This is a small beach, close to Canaveral beach. It has a beach bar and some tables where you can have a drink and relax. It is safe to swim at this beach; there are lifeguards as well for protection.
You can either take a bus or taxi to reach Tayrona Park from Santa Marta. The entrance fee varies depending upon whether you are a Colombian or foreigner
